The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition, headed by Desmond Meade, a registered Democrat, has started the “Amendment 4 Fines and Fees Fund.”
The group has launched a program that will give felons money who have to pay their court restitution, fines, and fees before they’re eligible to vote.
Amendment 4 restored the voting rights of more than 1.4 million criminals in Florida. However, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill into law in June that would require felons to pay any outstanding court-ordered fines before they would be allowed to vote.
The Florida Rights Restoration Coalition says they will raise money to pay fines for felons so they have a chance to vote in the 2020 election.
During a television interview, Meade said, “We will be continuously fundraising to make sure that those individuals that may not be able to get services by the court system, those that have demonstrated financial need, that we will be working with them on a continuous basis.”
Many say this is unethical and most definitely makes it appear as though the group is buying votes. Especially since the majority of felons would vote Democrat, according to an online poll.
Other advocacy groups say this is another attempt by ANTIFA-type groups to try and push President Trump out of office in 2020.
Many have turned to social media to express their disgust with the group.
Susan Cochran wrote, “Meade may not be directly associated with ANTIFA, but it seems to me the mentality is the same.”
“Why should felons get a free pass? They should be required to pay their own restitution and other fines. This is the problem with this country. Free handouts and no accountability. It’s like we have a world full of AOCs and Kaepernick’s,” Wrote Dan Collins.
